PowerSmart is the newest community-based energy campaign, now available to Southbury residents and a limited number of Connecticut municipalities.
Think of it as "Solarize + Storage" with your own clean energy back-up! It’s an opportunity for homeowners who own solar+battery to take control of their energy use. You generate your own power and have a choice of whether to use it or sell it to the grid.
For information on going solar, please visit the Residential Renewable Energy Solutions program, administered by Eversource and UI.
Southbury residents can purchase a battery storage system outright or enroll in the Energy Storage Solutions program, administered by CT Green Bank, Eversource and UI. This program provides residents with generous upfront battery purchase rebates. If you live in an area that is prone to frequent or lengthy power outages, you can earn additional incentives - see if your home qualifies as "Grid Edge."
Participants agree to have their batteries partially drawn down by Eversource during peak demand times in summer and winter. In exchange, they will receive payments after each season based upon the amount of electricity that is drawn from their batteries. The program has safeguards in place so that draw-downs are suspended in the event of a potential power outage.
Regardless of which option is chosen, your new solar panels and/or your battery energy storage system will be eligible for a federal tax credit of 30% under the Inflation Reduction Act.
The Sustainable Southbury program will present residents with opportunities and incentives to own solar and battery energy storage systems....Read More
